"When your activity in the home is poisoning the air in your neighborhood for a long distance around, that's when the air district says, 'Enough is enough,'" said Mark Ross, a Martinez city councilman who chairs the air district board."

Note these six KEY words, folks: "When your activity in the home"

More ravings from the "your choices are killing us" crowd...geesh.....how, oh how, did the human race ever make it this far? To listen to these people screech, you would be led to believe we should have all died out with the Neanderthals.

I'll bet our good councilman here still drives an automobile though.

Damn it!! You beat me to the post! I'd just copied the link and came here LOL Well, it's indeed fitting that the beginning of the end of woodburning stoves is in karloffornia.

I used to have compassion, but they legislated it and taxed it out of existence.

Ah, it's only on bad air days. That's nothing. There's some city in CA that banned fireplace fires permanently IIRC. No new home can be built with one.

I remember one CA city where it was proposed that every new home had to be handicap accessible and any existing home being renovated has to be made handicap accessible. Whoever proposed it said it would give the handicapped more choices in the future.

Edit: Btw, why is "In Your Home" bad, but cars are being given a pass? Because the majority have cars?

And then they'll slowly take over the state and eventually ban them there.

Good question. They're given pass because all these lame politicians are only going to talk the talk, you know damn well they'll never incovienience themselves. I'll bet they'll use their fireplaces if they so choose.

I remember hearing the city that prohibited new fireplaces being installed. (Belmont??)

this brings up a whole new situation

it has to do with engery conservation and greengas emitions..

states and legistator are in a sence forcing consumers to cut back on engery..and go to more engery efficiant ..this years tax forms you get a engery tax credit for ..be it for a car, weathiazation of your home. ect.. Power companies are increasing their fees on how much to charge consumers for natural gas and electric...

I was able to take a 3 thousand dollar engery tax credit on my taxes this year for replacement of a few windows and doors and insulating a couple of rooms in my home..Kitchen and bath..this year we are planning on replacing more windows and insulating a few more rooms. well none of this was making any sense when I read this artical..then I got my power bill for one month and it like a fricking freight train hit me.. states and governments are putting more burdan on society forcing consumers to cut back on engery and in order to comply goverments and states put in place bans hence the above "banning fire places" air quality improvement means less greengases emissions.. how else would you be able to take an engery tax credit..we were never able to take this credit years before. year 2003 or 04 you were able to take an engery credit if you bought one of those hybread cars

well this month I got a 465 dollar power bill this is making us decide to refinance our home to make it more engery effeciant..and buying more engery effeciant appliances to reduce our consumption of engery.. it really sucks.. governments and states are always finding ways to get in the consumers pockets

If you're fed-up with government intrusion into our private lives (alcohol, tobacco, weight or so-called obesity, etc.) especially the nonsense and destruction surrounding smoking bans, then discuss/fight smoking bans at the FORCES tavern or go directly to their FORCES homepage. A UK-based group (forcing a Judicial Review of the English smoking ban) is Freedom to Choose, with another great forum for chatting and organizing here.

This could be the one I was thinking of although when searching for it they are/weren't alone:

Traditional open-hearth fireplaces in new homes and remodels in Santa Rosa could be outlawed if the Santa Rosa City Council follows through with a proposal it is considering.
