Rochester, NY (07/24/03) - Eastman Kodak was granted an exemption from the smoking law...
After touring Kodak Park, Dr. Andrew Doniger, Monroe County's health director, agreed to grant the company a waiver, but said he did not make the decision lightly. ...most companies had to close their smoking lounges to comply with the new law. Although the new state smoking law bans smoking rooms of any kind, Kodak has been allowed to keep 19 of its 59 smoking rooms open allegedly on the grounds that it wasn't reasonable or safe for workers in certain areas to smoke outside. "I didn't want to do this...but agreed on a temporary basis because of fire hazard concerns at the park," Doniger said. He also said it's not special treatment, because special circumstances led to granting the waiver and there are conditions. One condition is that Kodak must provide help to encourage workers to quit smoking. Also, Kodak’s exemption is not permanent. It gives the company three years to eliminate smoking in all buildings. The county health department said anyone can apply for a waiver from the law, but it's unlikely to be granted unless the applicant can prove financial hardship or unreasonable circumstances. story How can it possibly be about SHS when there are smoking rooms? And what's this %$#^%$#@#$ CRAP about "must provide help to encourage workers to quit smoking." That is most definitely not about SHS. The next official who says this crap is about SHS should be be beaten silly for being such a moron. |

It's too late! Somebody must have beaten all anti-smokers senseless, already. They are of serious mental defect. |
