If you're fed-up with government intrusion into our private lives (alcohol, tobacco, weight or so-called obesity, etc.) especially the nonsense and destruction surrounding smoking bans, then discuss/fight smoking bans at the FORCES tavern or go directly to their FORCES homepage. A UK-based group (forcing a Judicial Review of the English smoking ban) is Freedom to Choose, with another great forum for chatting and organizing here.

I'm not trying to be nasty here, but-what difference does it make? They won't be our friend. The only way I'd give a shit would be if it were a known Nazi-like the Clintons. Same goes for McPain's VP choice.

I used to have compassion, but they legislated it and taxed it out of existence.

No, don't misunderstand, as I said, I wasn't trying to be nasty or anything. I probably won't vote for prez either unless it's third party. The only way I would have bothered with that spot on the ticket would have been if the Clintons had realized their 20-some odd year master plan and had gotten the nomination. Then and only then would I have voted for McPain in the ass.

my son and i were discussing my vote tonight. I told him I might vote Libertarian party...he told me I would be wasting my vote...I dont think so..If enough people vote third party (libertarian, green, communist, etc), maybe the electorate (whoever they are) will take notice.

Maybe he'll resurrect karl marx for VP.

That would be quite fitting.

Either way, we don't have a friend in DC.

Just saw a McPain commercial which started out with: "He took on "Big Tobacco"! All by himself"!!! Oh, really? Using the old Clinton/Gore/Democratic party soundbite/catchphrase. When no one else would? What about Waxman, Kennedy, Pelosi, on and on, et al.....This prick does not get my vote. By the way-just like Laura Bush, I saw a few years old pic of McCain and his wife, and Sweet Cindy had a cig in her hand....and of course, he used to smoke also.

Obama's running mate is likely to be Virginia Governor Tim Kaine.

Why? Virginia is in play for Obama and having Virginia's Governor as the VP candidate will probably swing the state's 13 electoral votes to Obama. If he does this, it will be very hard for McCain to catch up.

Also, I heard that Obama flew to Virginia today to meet with Kaine (but I don't know). Also, when asked, Kaine's response was apparently "I don't know". I take this to mean "I can't discuss that now."

I could be wrong. Hell, the way things are, Obama's choice may be leaked before I'm done typing this.

I did an assessment on RealClearPolitics.com today and, the way I see it, if the election were held today, either McCain would win by electoral vote or the race would be a 269-269 tie. (I don't like McCain, but I dislike Obama even more, so I took my bias into account for the 269-269 tie and gave New Mexico and Nevada to Obama. Based on poll data from Realclearpolitics.com (below). I did not take possible VP choices into account.)

My 269-269 electoral map at link below.

I have decided to vote for neither in this "election".

I won't play the "lesser of two evils" game any longer.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a "none of the above" option? Of course, I could always write in my son, he's old enought to be president now.. Wink

From The Boston Rag...er, Globe:

McCain's longtime effort to crack down on tobacco is being put to a new test. Within weeks, the Senate is expected to vote on legislation to allow the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco. McCain agreed months ago to cosponsor the current bill with Senator Edward M. Kennedy, but McCain's policy adviser said the senator won't commit to voting for it until he sees the final legislation.

McCain has also dropped his support for increasing cigarette taxes. Last year, McCain voted against legislation that would have used a 61-cents-per-pack tax to expand a children's health program. He told a television reporter earlier this year that he would have a "no new taxes" policy as president.

McCain's decade of work on tobacco, one of the most significant efforts of his congressional career, has earned him enmity from the industry and from some fellow Republicans over the years. At the same time, public-health advocates have celebrated his support of tobacco regulation. But now, some antismoking activists are disappointed that the presumptive Republican nominee for president has backed off from the tobacco tax, which they consider key to improving public health....

The memo noted that among the Philip Morris representatives slated to attend a meeting with McCain was Charlie Black, who was a lobbyist for the tobacco company and is now McCain's senior campaign adviser.

In an interview, Black said McCain initially welcomed industry representatives to make their case in various ways and said the Arizona Republican wanted to strike a compromise that would satisfy the industry and public-health advocates....

Black said he didn't talk to McCain about tobacco legislation after that, although Philip Morris continued to aggressively target McCain in its campaign against the bill. Black stopped working for the company in 2001 and said he hasn't discussed any issues related to his clients with McCain while serving as the senator's senior adviser in the current campaign....

The issue could again become a focus of a presidential campaign - but because of McCain's opposition to taxing cigarettes, rather than his support for it.

True.

And how about Biden? Two weeks ago he stated he wouldn't accept the VP position (if offered). Big Grin

Biden also wants to expand federal penalties for hate crimes. He
supports a FEDERAL smoking ban. His position on the federal drinking
age is, and I quote, "absolutely do not" lower it to 18. He
believes "most violent crime is related to drugs" (if he had said "drug
prohibition, " he'd be closer to the truth). Biden also has an almost
perfect anti-gun voting record

I heard that Obama is the most liberal senator with a 95% voting record. Biden is #3 with 94%.

No comments on Palin yet? McPain's got big balls for rolling the dice, I'll give him that. She may be a hot babe, but she's tough. I've read that Alaskans call her "the Sarahcuda".
