Antis make a big deal about how smoking causes Heart Disease and Heart Disease deaths.They use computer generated numbers fron studies to prove this.

The numbers below are NOT computer generated; people died, bodies were counted, and these numbers are what we have.

There are some interesting comparisons to be made!
SR=Smoking Rate
Note that both Colo and Wash DC have the same SR(20.4)
DC is 3rd on the list and Colo is 48th.

Must be all of the politicians in DC causing people to die. Wink

New Jersey(SR 19.0) is 22nd, Alaska(SR 29.3-50% higher) is 46th.
I guess Alaskan smokers are just hardier.

New York(SR 22.3) is 9th.
Minn(SR 21.8) is 50th!!
Could this be due to the 'Hillary effect'? Barf

Hawaii(SR 21.0) is 49th, Maryland(SR 22) is 20th.

Studies are cute; but,the bodies tell a different set of facts!!

If we presume that all smokers die from Heart Disease and that all Heart Disease deaths are smokers, we can make a comparison between states.
For instance; Miss(SR 27.3) would have 27,300 smokers per 100,000. If we divide that by the 310.3/100,000 HDDR, we get 1 death per 88 smokers.
DC(1/71),NY(1/84),Calif(1/75), Utah(1/70), all have much higher death rates.

Utah,with the lowest smoking rate in the country(SR 12.8),has a 22% higher death per smoker rate than Miss(SR27.3-100+% higher). Confused
