quote: That perfectly describes nearly every bar/tavern/club that I have frequented over the years. Of course it is not quite as obvious in Delaware, unless you happen to know which places are not enforcing the ban (which of course I do!!!). It's the only way some of these places can survive. Places with outdoor seating and/or bars (as long as there is no roof) made out better over the summer than places without, but the temperature has started dropping and tourist season is over. I have no doubt things will be as bad if not worse than last winter for these folks, let alone the owners in New York, as Delaware winters are generally more moderate than upstate NY. Of course the Maryland (and PA and NJ) owners are loving the bans in Delaware and NY. One owner whose place literally sits on the Maryland line (I have to drive into MD to turn around to get there)is just thankful she has a package store to keep her in business. On a recent weekday afternoon there was one car in her parking lot, yet the bar directly across the road had a packed parking lot because it is in maryland. And many of those cars in the maryland lot had Delaware tags and used to be parked in the lot in Delaware. ---------------------------- Smoke gnatzies: small minds buzzing in you business - SWAT'EM |

"complying with regulations" is not a civic duty at all. Civil disobedience is. At least according to Ben Franklin. One of your country's great philosophers.
Here's to hoping there will be more instances
of civil disobedience. When you "comply", they feel they can chip away your rights even more... in austin, some of the bars and music venues are "complying" with an ordinance where the 1st monday of every month must be smoke-free along with a $300 license. Some businesses have adopted this measure to please the city council. What has it gotten them??? no business. Granted it is a monday, but before this ordinance, a monday would draw a good crowd: for those who hated crowded weekends. when they found out they couldn't smoke-they left. simple as that. smokers, come hell or high water, will venture out to the bar, if they know they can smoke. |
Do you mean to tell me that the howling, lung-beating antismokers who promoted the Monday Smoking Bans in these bars and music venues aren't pounding the streets and lining sidewalks ten blocks long to get into their smoke-free havens??? Leaving them empty???

No, they're not...and that's what most of the restaurant & bar owners mention every time they get on the air for a fleeting moment. Channel 13 did its weekly "restaurant report card" the other night, where they "expose" board of health violations (great they can't find time to investigate the great gasoline rip-off, but have time for this shit), and one restaurant was violation-free. They asked the owner how he does such a great job of keeping the place so clean. His response , which I'm surprised they aired, was: "Well, it's pretty easy to do now. Since the smoking ban was passed, we don't have that much business anymore." The reporter just looked sheepish and didn't know what to say, other than "Well, there you have it, back to you, Diane." He couldn't get away from the guy fast enough.

Dave, does that paper write about anything other than anti-smoking garbage? Have they even bothered to inform Toledo that there's a war going on in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Odd you should put it that way....the other day, they had an article on the ban, in huge heavy-type letters, on the rag's front page. Beneath it, in plain-type heading, was a report on the recent audio tape by Osama Bin Laden.
It's like I've said since 9/11....we're more despised in this country than he is. -------------------------------------------------------------------- I used to have compassion, but they legislated it and taxed it out of existence. |

I just emailed a long response to Brian McGory, a writer for the Boston Globe (and a fanatic anti-smoker) who wrote a column today, 4/27/04, about how "everyone" is lying. He is just sick about it! He gave numerous examples. None of which were the lies from the smoke-nazis. Including Diane Pickles and her $2,300,000 grant from RWJF to get a statewide ban in Mass. I pointed out how the media supported this problem with their failure to verify the veracity of what they report...don't expect to hear back. (LOL) I sure made my point that the lies are the norm because the media reports them as truth. Offered to talk further about ALAR and the Obesity Epidemic.....

I wrote to Russ Lemon once. He's one of the turds at Dave's Toledo Blade. He wrote back and said thanks. Of course it didn't change his thinking one bit. |

Here's the article that took precedence over Bin Laden-about the impending Columbus ban.
http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040416/NEWS24/404160395/-1/ARCHIVES30 Hey, ass*&%^s!! Pssst! I can tell you how to do it real quick! All your local politicians merely pass a law after conducting phony "hearings", and instantly, law-abiding citizens become criminals!
