Shutting down deep brain region may help addicts: study

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20071025/hl_afp/sciencedrugsus_071025181544

"But in experiments on rats, Chilean researchers have shown that temporarily "silencing" the insula suppresses cravings in drug-addicted rats and insulates them from the unpleasant side effects of medication, according to the study published in Science.".

Experiments on rats, since most smokers are held in lower regard than rats, how long before the "cure" becomes mandatory?

Well folks, if we don't start fighting back hard, and soon, we will lose the war without ever firing a single shot, Now realize, I am NOT advocating the use of physical violence here, (Though there are some Anti's I personally would love to phyiscally violate), but we are as far back in the corner as we can get, it is time and past time for anyone who believes they have the right to decide how they will live their lives to start fighting back, and quickly. At the very least we need to take a page from the biker's fights (RE: helmet laws) and start hounding our politicians unmercilessly, until they get the message that we're not gonna take it, anymore, start camoping out in the hallways of your local pols, demonstrate at every chance you get, organize your own local resistance, and do it now before we can't even muster that.

If you look back throughout history-no great change in society has ever come about without physical violence. The anti-smoker hatred is the one exception, solely because it's being done through the courts and the media. Sorry-but we need violence. The time for caring what people think of us was over years ago. Shortly after 9/11, to be exact, when the rabid smoker-haters simply continued on with business as usual, and began to make great strides on statewide bans.

I used to have compassion, but they legislated it and taxed it out of existence.

Since smoking effects the brain in the same manner as ADD and ADHD drugs it would seem that the medical profession wants to reduce the mental abilities of smokers to their level.

It depends on whether or not you want to be reduced to the level of "worker bees" or be productive as an individual being.

I can not see this process being pursued as it would negate the need for prescribed drugs and would be counter productive the cause. The cause being transfer the profits for tobacco companies and government to those of the drug companies.
