I recently went out for a tour of my favorite bars. It is a summer and a slow season, but I was amazed with how few people were there, but the streets were crowded with cars. I ran into an old friend, who manages a club, and he explained it to me. In the last year, since the smoking ban was legislated, many of the buildings in the commercial district - the entertainment area - have been converted into Condos, and these people belong to the cars now lining the streets. The City government has been giving out low interest loans to those that create coffee shops and restaurants, but they have suspended acceptance of permits for those who want to own bars or clubs. On top of this they have been stationing cops on the corners of the streets and when too many people come outside to smoke a butt they sweep through the streets and drive people to walk on, using the Loitering laws.
My friend went on explain that even those who make coffee shops and new restaurants are going under since the cost of the condos are extremely high and the people who live here dont have the spare cash to eat out!
This is one example of how the new world is being created.

(aargghhh!)
