Jennifer Grandhole has been slobbering at the bit for this since OheilO got theirs. Polls in Michigan showed the public wouldn't vote for it, so it had to be done by the government.

I used to have compassion, but they legislated it and taxed it out of existence.

Dave,
It says the Michigan (Republican) Senate will likely reject it.

I am tired of hearing legislators saying that after becoming aware of the various Surgeon General remarks about the dangers of second hand smoke they were convinced of the need for a smoking ban. Obviously none of them got past the introduction of the reports.

As the medical profession intrudes onto the legislative stage more and more health related issues are brought forward. SCHIP, Medicare, Medicade, the uninsured, the prescription drug plan, the sick and dying. How many of these legislators have taken in a starving medical professional? Health Care has become the one issue causing the financial collapse of both state and federal governments. Doctors and nurses are not seen amongst the homeless. Doctors have not left California for lack of revenue.

How many legislators are without medical coverage? How many of them are being treated for anything?

The medical profession has priced themselves outside the market they serve. No one mentions that treatment for anything is more expensive than the average worker can afford to pay for.

No one appreciates the days they feel great.

Just as the corporations who move manufacturing outside the country, no one realizes that we are a society of consumers. Consumption requires earnings. Earnings require good paying jobs, not stock dividends. No one making money means no one consuming goods and services.

Each good or service must compete for the consumer's earnings. Currently basic human needs are being priced beyond the individuals means to procure them.

Now there's a shortage of medical "specialists" because they can't make enough money (over $200K a year)...give me a break! I'll find the source, I promise...I think it was the "new, improved" Wall Street journal (owned by Rupert Murdoch).

This isn't the article I was thinking about, but it is appropriate:

My fault, link one was for the House vote, link two was for the Senate vote. Should have made it more clear. But why would the Senate change THAT radically? After fighting it off since 2006, they just caved and voted about 2-1 for this crap. It doesn't make sense.

One bullshit study too many?

"Some Republicans who voted for the legislation said their positions evolved as they saw more evidence from the surgeon general and others related to hazards of secondhand smoke."

But it wasn't more evidence. Just the same crap repackaged every single day.
