Antis and Health care people just can not, nor do they want to, understand that there is more to smoking than just nicotine.
Last week, due to a blood chemistry problem, I was in the hospital for 28 hours. Most of that time I was hooked up with an IV. The nurses and aids were shocked and stunned that; rather than have a nicotine patch, I chose to trundle my IV stand down the hallway, down the elevator, and out the doors to the parking lot to have a my cigarettes. They could not understand that a nicotine patch was about as satisfying as a caffeine patch instead of a cup of hot coffee in the morning. About as satisfying as a sugar patch instead of a roll to go along with that cup of coffee. It was beyond them that a nicotine patch was about as satisfying as a sodium patch instead of salt on their food. They could not understand that a nicotine patch was as satisfying as an alcohol patch instead of the taste and flavor of a glass of wine to go with that food. They merely stammered;"But, it's not the same." BS, it is exactly the same!!! I can see and hear it now: Bunch of guys watching a ball game and hearing this " Hey Charley, I'm running low, throw me another alcohol patch wudya?" To a waitress: " I would like the sodium patch crusted filet and for the alcohol patch,a nice California red" By the way, I did NOT wear their cute little gown with my butt out in the air. Gary K. |

welcome back Gary sorry to hear about your 28 hour stay.. must have been tiring and trying..
What!!no hospital gown ... -------------------------- can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen --------------------------- If you're fed-up with government intrusion into our private lives (alcohol, tobacco, weight or so-called obesity, etc.) especially the nonsense and destruction surrounding smoking bans, then discuss/fight smoking bans at the FORCES tavern or go directly to their FORCES homepage. A UK-based group (forcing a Judicial Review of the English smoking ban) is Freedom to Choose, with another great forum for chatting and organizing here. |

Things got even more stupid. There was no coffee on the floor I was on, you had to call room service and wait an hour or go get the coffee yourself.
So there I was, trundling my IV stand down to the cafeteria to get a cup of coffee.Well;what the Hell, now it is me,my coffee cup,and my IV stand trundling out to the parking lot so that I could have a cigarette with my cup of coffee. Hospitals are not very people friendly!! Nurses kept getting upset because I was always going out of the telemetry range of the heart monitor thing I was wearing. The nurses were rather happy to see me leave!! Gary K. |

Have times changed that much? Last time I was an inpatient at a hospital (1984) almost every nurse on my ward smoked.
And now they can't differentiate between a cigarette and a nicotine patch? My God. |
