Add El Cajon, CA (just east of San Diego) to Calabasas and Belmont.

On July 24 El Cajon presented a smoking ordinance lifted verbatim from the Calabasas Municipal Code. Smoking is banned in ALL places, indoors and outdoors, open to the public, including sidewalks, street and parking lots, plus too much else to list here.

"ALLOWING, AIDING, OR ABETTING" illegal smoking carry the same penalties as smoking. "Private enforcers" (any person acting for the interests of the general public) are given the same powers as the city attorney to bring legal action against an illegal smoker or abettor.

Except that the city attorney must deposit the resulting penalities into the El Cajon general fund: The "private enforcer" gets to keep the money for himself. This is a cash cow for a snitch.

This is hauntingly similar to my short story titled, "In The Name of Public Health." However, I didn't think this sort of Obediance Fascism would occur until around 2017. Scary. And insane.
