I haven't seen this question posted anywhere else so I'll give it a shot. Living here on the Left Coast we've been forced to smoke Cigs manufactured with the FSC papers for a couple of years now. They absolutely ruin the taste of a cigarette. Instead of burning, the damn things sit and smolder as if the paper is wet. They're horrible! Is there any solution to get these damn things to burn outside of going to Mexico or Nevada to get a decent tasting smoke? I live in Los Angeles so a hundred mile drive is not the most practical answer. Sorry if I'm off-topic or double posting on the subject. What all the tax increases haven't been able to do, these freaking papers are gonna accomplish. Making me quit smoking. The bottom line is these damn papers are more likely than not gonna save one frigging life. It's a feel good solution from another idiot polotician.

I heard that one of the big two Companies - RJR or PM will be changing all their cigs to Fire-Safe by 2009 - I forget which one right now...

Change to MYO cigarettes, right now paper is paper without the added chemicals of fire-safe.

I found them nasty and messy because of the paper. I saw some politician did say it didn't change them. Obviously a non-smoker.

People seem to like the false advertising better than the truth. Wonderful world.

I heard RJR is going to change all their brands to fire-safe paper in 2009. I smoke Salem, which is RJR. If the new cigarettes are as bad as everyone says, I'll be switching to something else after 41 years.

I smoke Camel Lights (soft pack) and have done so since 1978. Well, new paper or not, they've changed the logo on their packaging and along with it, the tobacco blend. I tried one of the new packs and it tasted completely different. This is very disappointing. Marlboro Virginia Blend is close to the old Camel Lights, and is the likely brand I'll switch to after 30 years. Thanks, Camel..... Mad I don't do RYO. It's too much of a pain in the ass.

Because the FSC's are so nasty, I think it is just a ploy to get people off cigs. Threats of illness and all the other advertising didn't work so this is the new approach.

FSC's are nasty and messy, just like described in greacywrench's post.

Cigs are a major factor in balancing state budgets. I did see on the news where they raided some Native American business for something about taxes.

Maine wants more tax to support a health care program that shouldn't even be in existance, it helps way to few people for what it costs.

People leave toasters's, coffee pots, and other appliances running when they leave the house. Not all accidents and fires can be prevented. People by nature make mistakes.

I really love this site, it shows that people are as irritated as I am, however, I don't see enough members, passive or active, to really do any good. I do like to unwind and hear what others say.

The ploy to get smokers so disgusted with the taste of reformulated tobacco may indeed be intentional. I went to the websites of both PM and RJR and they both contain statements in agreement with the government's stand on SHS. Obviously, the government made them do this, because when this shs crap started, the tobacco companies said it was BS just as we continue to do to this day. It's possible that tobacco is already beginning to be "regulated" in a back-door fashion. I'm going to attempt to E-mail Camel and try to get them to go back to their old and proven taste, but I doubt it will do any good. In the meantime, I'll buy as many old-logo cartons as I can at the Indian Reservation.......

I like your idea Pat. I also feel it will do nothing.

If I sound discouraged I am. I do think, and I have on my blog that the real issue is control. Without great numbers of people uniting to fight the forces that seem to be converting this country to fascism, I don't think we stand a chance.

Looking back you might notice how schools and society began to structure and regulate younger people to certain ideals. Many of which are very much against anything that resembles freedom.

It appears more and more that what wasn't accomplished with prohibition, will be accomplished with tobacco.

Find a good site about freedom and liberty, join and see if they can get united before it is too late.

I would add, don't forget this site. It is important because underneath the ideas and information is a basic feeling by the people here, that we just want freedom and liberty to enjoy what the American life was.

I'm seriously considering Cigars. The only problems are my Wife won't stand for the smell and I inhale the damn things like cigs. I suppose I could smoke one of the small size brands such as the "Erik" ones.

I agree with Pat and asmoker123 about the tactics of the Anti's. The FSC papers are just a surrepticious end-around to get more smokers to quit.

You gotta love the posts in one of the other threads I read here about the situation in Minnesotta. Politicians are bitching about losing tax revenues because so many smokers are quitting. What's the old saying? "Be careful what you wish for". Bwaaahaaahahaha!

Maine isn't happy either. We already have a downfall in revenue, and they are thinking of raising the tax to cover a useless program.

I wish something could be done. This isn't a good time for anyone to lose revenue. Minnesota is just following the rest of the country.
