A blood test to identify lung cancer in its early stages could potentially save millions of lives if initial results can be confirmed, researchers say.

French scientists on Monday announced preliminary results...at the annual congress of the European Society for Medical Oncology...

"If we catch lung cancer early enough, we've proven in practice that we can cure it," said Kosmidis.

While experts guessed that the blood test might still be at least five to 10 years away from being an everyday medical reality, they said that its hypothesis, of testing for cancer through blood tests, is promising.

Indeed, but that won't stop them from cranking out more BS to justify their existence...

More bad news for anti-smokers:

South Korean scientists have said they have developed a new genetically altered strain of virus which is highly efficient in targeting and killing cancer cells.

The new therapy...uses a genetically-engineered form of the adenovirus, which normally causes colds.

When injected into cancerous tumors, the virus quickly multiplies in the cancer cells and kills them, the team said.

The new adenovirus can target only cancer cells and does not harm normal cells, the team said.

Following three rounds of injections, more than 90 percent of cancer cells in the brains, liver, lungs and womb of mice disappeared within 60 days, the team said.

Just watch, the Anti's will find a way to use this testing to further discriminate against smokers.
For acceptance into any health Insurance, you will be required to undergo this testing, and then if testing shows the possibility of contracting cancer, you will be considered uninsurable, or if you smoke, you will not be allowed to use this testing to determine if you have the possibility of contracting the disease, as smokers would cost to much to insurance companies as they would need regular testing along with their regular check-ups, or somesuch rot.

I notice that the newsmedia and the Anti's are really cranking up their rhetoric lately, as they prepare to launch more intrusive and terribly more liberty curtailing legislation with the new legislative sessions coming up shortly.
My local newspaper has been cranking out at least one Anti smoker story daily for the last couple of weeks. Including all the "facts" that have been debunked in the last year or so, including the "new" studies showing how bans "reduced" the number of heart attacks in Pueblo, Helena, etc, etc.

Although I haven't read the link, I was thinking that this treatment of cancer will be "years away from development" on humans.
Meanwhile, thousands of cancer victims will die. Just once, I'd like to see something that works actually be approved for use. If I was told I had three months to live, I'd be willing to try anything. What would you have to lose?
On the issue of smokers, however, I think that even if a 100% absolute cure for lung cancer were available tomorrow, nothing would change regarding the current persecution and discrimination. The Anti's would simply emphasize heart disease as a justification for bans. After all, Richard Carmona said that 30 seconds of exposure to shs could cause an instant heart attack......... My personal concern about these tests is if they find the early stages of something and start aggressive treatment immediately they do not let my natural immune system a chance to do it's job.

Treatment usually takes a year or more and by the time they are done with you your immune system is totally shot. You will never really recover.

I would give my immune system a chance first and help it as best I could with natural suppliments.

I would rather die a natural death than a slow death as a customer of the medical community and drug companies.

True.....I have often wondered if conventional cancer treatments (Chemo, radiation) can actually SPEED UP a person's demise, because, as you point out, this destroys the immune system something fierce.. Confused
