One small thing at a time, our liberties are being eroded. I am probably a bit older than most of you and have seen it happening for 40+ years. Smokers are the latest group to have their freedom of choice stomped on. When I read that CA is considering a ban on smoking in apartments, I snapped. We are now telling landlords who they are allowed to rent to?

Wisconsin is getting ready to jump on the bandwagon to ban smoking in bars and restaurants. I doubt it will fly here in the tundra, but the babysitter crowd in Madison is going to try, (along with $1.25 per pack additional taxes).

I have always tried to keep my decision to smoke from bothering other people. I don't smoke in the homes of non smokers even with permission. But, now they want to make it so I cannot stop by a bar after work for a beer and a cigarette out of the cold.

The only rules are those or the owner or tenant. smoke drink rape kill rob anyone you please if the owner doesn't object. Isn't that the goal of the libertarian? "It is nice to be king."

Most of us only want to live our lives and get on with it. Most of realize that if we produce a deffective product we will fail to prosper. Most of us live by the "golden rule" do unto others as you wish done unto you.

Smoking is something we do, we see nothing wrong with smoking, because of the current vogue we are being asked to reframe from our personal pleasures because others feel we are infringing on their view of the world. Since we do not agree, we do as we please. We are not murdering people. We are not taking anyone's property away from them.

If you don't like smoking avoid smokers. If the smell of smoke bothers you - avoid it. We have no problem with the smell of smoke, to us it is like the cup of coffee in the morning, it makes feel all warm and fuzzy.

Seventy five percent of the world's population does not smoke, certainly such a large group of people could create a space to eat, be entertained, and work, that avoids the twentyfive percent of us who smoke.

Make a place for yourselves and leave our places alone.

IKIA you are lacking any common sense with that post.

If you're fed-up with government intrusion into our private lives (alcohol, tobacco, weight or so-called obesity, etc.) especially the nonsense and destruction surrounding smoking bans, then discuss/fight smoking bans at the FORCES tavern or go directly to their FORCES homepage. A UK-based group (forcing a Judicial Review of the English smoking ban) is Freedom to Choose, with another great forum for chatting and organizing here.

To equate smokers with rapist, murderers and thieves is just assinine! In milwaukee we have clearly marked smoke free restaurants, bars, apartment complexes, etc. I choose not to patronize those establishments. A non smoker can choose not to patronize a smoking establishment. I own a duplex and I smoke. A law like the one proposed in CA would mean I would either have to quit smoking or sell my house.

The day will come when something you enjoy is on the hit list.
