Candy!!
Cigarillos are seen here blending in with markers, make-up and gum. The bright colours and sweet flavours make them more appealing to youth. Makes you hungry right? It's interesting that the tobacco industry is currently selling cigarillos and spit tobacco, which can cause cancer, in all these yummy-delicious flavours...and even more interesting they're marketing them to youth! Flavoured tobacco comes in flashy packaging and has almost no warning labels. The tobacco industry understands that cigarettes are a hard sell to the next generation, because we know all the risks...Cancer, heart disease, stroke, bad breath, asthma, cataracts and poor health. What the next generation don't realize is that these new novelty products are just as deadly as cigarettes!! Legislation like Bill C-566 will cinch up the loop holes in the Federal Tobacco Act by banning all flavours in tobacco products and require that cigarillos be packaged in the same way as cigarettes; in packs of 20 with large graphic warning labels. The youth of Northwestern Ontario support Bill C-566 because it will protect youth from the addiction to deadly tobacco industry products. But in facts, we don't care how the government does it - legislation or regulation- we just need them to ban flavours and require packaging like cigarettes. To support banning flavoured tobacco products, you can sign our on-line petition, you can contact your Local MP or the health minister and tell her/him that you want her/him to support legislative initiatives such as Bill C-566 and/or support regulatory changes to the tobacco act to ban flavours. Also check out the facebook event and tell your friends about these yucky products. |
