The Wolstein Sports and Entertainment Group is heading up the effort to
build the complex on 475 acres in northern Summit County, on state
Route 8 at Interstate 271. It has been proposed that Summit County
residents vote in November to establish a "sin tax" on alcohol and
cigarettes to provide about $5 million a year.

I used to have compassion, but they legislated it and taxed it out of existence.

Try this one. I went to a local forum on it, and doesn't sound like it has too much support, even among non-smokers. It's a SOCCER stadium, by the way. They still keep pushing that dead horse here, even though the only place people go to watch it is at their kid's schools.

Yeah, that's what we need to do...pay for another place that can discriminate against smokers, although it was built with their tax-money.

And, where, in ANY constitution (state or federal) is it permitted to steal tax-payer's money to build a facility where no one profits except for some big-wig developer, and some sports franchise???

WTF are these people thinking??

I watched an interview with Pres candidate Ron Paul last week. These types of financing deals is one of the things that he mentioned as governments violating constitutional law by federal, state and local governments. Which in the end a project like these will end up receiving all of them.

just take the part using sin taxes. This is what will most likely be used to finace some sort of low intersts bonding. Most likely through a Industrial Development or Economic Development non-profit org. This is usually done over 20 years. thats a S100 million or around a $50 million dollar bond. The financing will have to be backed by the county if there is a shortfall. Anything short of $5 million in sin taxes will have to be made up by the taxpayers. Tobacco and Alcohol are just the easy targets.
