"Is it the Consumers responsibility to insure that the retailer abides by the law?"

Which in my mind brings up the blatant fact that when a State attempts to collect the Excise tax from a retail consumer, when in most cases the retail consumer was not informed either 1)By the State OR 2) by the Retailer, the State is breaking the law by attempting to collect an excise tax on consumers.
(Anybody have other points to add to this one?)

Not to mention further breaking the law by trying to collect taxes, in many cases, years after the fact, with the above points made.

Reminds of the time when I beat a charge in court, (acutally did it through the mail) against me for drinking beer at a river. I proved (with photographs) that there was not one single sign posted saying I can't enjoy a nice cool one at the damn river. They had nothing against me and were forced to drop all charges.

Point being. The consumer has be to given prior notice as to what the law is, and at what rate he will be taxed. If he has not, then there is no basis in court for attempting to collect taxes.

I don't see any Government Label telling me on the websites, what I expect to be taxed when I buy cigarettes, do you?

BUT I do see a Label on how much tax I will be expected to pay when I buy a CAR!
Why the double standards !!
(Gee, interesting ain't it.)

Further, I question the legality of looking at a person's credit cards, to obtain the information they are requesting !

Any lawyers on this group wanna look into this, and take em to court, cause I doubt this would hold up in court ?

If not maybe it might be time to get a little class action going. Teach them a lesson. Twisted Evil

It's high time to start addressing what is on everyone's mind. Namely how far will it go........the degree of telling us what we can and cannot do, in this place called the Land of the "Free"
