This is just too good, folks..... and, I thought the reason for raising taxes on products such as tobacco, was to cut down their use....LOL. And, what about all the "health care costs saved"???? LOL, again. Now, the beast is beginning to show it's true money grubbing colors. Does anyone still buy this "for the children" shit now??? Fools. ---------------------- BAN THE BANNERS!!! |

Glad my logic education was not in the state of SD. Math wrote:
"math wrote on April 15, 2007 1:26 AM:"Math, study it! The revenue from the cigarette tax will not fall unless sales fall be greater than 65%. Let me illustrate using small numbers. Say 100 packs of cigarttes are sold prior to the tax increase, generating revenue of $.53 per pack, so $53.00. Now after the tax increase, say sales fall by 50% (as some are claiming). So 50 pack of cigarettes are sold with a tax rate of $1.53 per pack, generating revenue of $76.50. $76.50 is greater than $53.00! The tax almost tripled, if sales drop by half, revenue will still be higher! Its math people!" This person seems to have missed the point that the extra money has already been spent;thus, leaving a considerable shortfall. Perhaps, they should give SD back to the Indians! |

Those posts in response to that article are a frightening reflection of how successful anti-smoking has been at filling people with hate and misinformation. These people actually believe that they're paying for people who smoke when they just friggin' read an article telling them the exact opposite. These people have absolutely no idea how U.S. Government was intended to work.
Do you know what I'd love to see? I'd like to see the government or the media come up with something absolutely outrageous, I mean really off the wall, let's say running about six months of news stories on how Global Warming is endangering Santa Claus and his factory at the North Pole. Get a bunch of smaller folks, dress them up like elves, get a bunch of reindeer, and build a set resembling a magical toy factory. Conduct a bunch of very sober sit down interviews with Santa and the Elves where they explain that Christmas may not happen next year because of Global Warming. Shoot some shootage of some elves and a few reindeer stranded out on an ice float, like those polar bears they're always trying to con the public with. Then take a poll to see how many Americans believe the story. Then reveal the truth, and perhaps we can spend the next 6 months having a nationwide discussion about how naive and gullible our nation and our world is becoming and what a grave danger this is to humanity. ____________________________________________________ Hope. Winston, have you ever seen this site?
dihydrogen monoxide research division I showed it to my fifth-grader not too long ago, and he is already planning on designing a scientific research project for next year's Science Fair. He intends to show that people can be made to believe damn near anything if it is presented in a flashy, "professional" manner. In all honesty, he can't wait to spring the truth on his friends and teachers to see how ridiculous they feel afterwards. I will be interested in hearing the results, too, though I doubt very much that I will be surprised at the results. Regards, Jenny PS: He's going to go after global warming, too. I'm so proud of him, my little politically incorrect rebel! |

Penn and Teller have a show on "Showtime" called "Penn and Teller's Bullshit!". (Yes, that's the actual name of the show). One of the episodes of this show was devoted to environmentalism and they distributed a petition at an environmental rally to ban "dihydrogen monoxide" (or H20, water). They got alot of people to sign it and I don't think anyone questioned it.
Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller is on the board of the Cato Institute, the Libertarian think-tank. Though I share his politics, I'm not too big of a fan of Penn & Teller's agrressive shtick. Here is a clip from the episode in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi3erdgVVTw Here's Penn Jillette giving into pressure and chickening out on an episode they did on secondhand smoke. I just found this while searching for the above, and I'm very disappointed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrub3dt7R5U ____________________________________________________ Hope. Change.... I'm very surprised myself! They were big proponants of the BS behind smoking bans. I wonder if this has something to do with the smoking ban that went through Nevada. They live in Las Vegas, I believe, as they've had a long running live show at the Rio. Thanks, varla_pussycat |
