AB2744 has been introduced in California to raise alcohol taxes:

Distilled spirits tax rate would go up 160%.

Reason?

The Bill actually admits that due to the fact that they are spending the tobacco settlement on projects other than health, they need monies to replace that cash, so they want to increase taxes on liquor, beer, and wine for health care.

Of course they use the same flawed statistics to try to justify their actions.

"From July 1, 2000 to July 30, 2001, 60% of the patients admitted into emergency rooms in LA tested positive for alcohol."

So? Did it have anything to do with the reason they were there? No.

I guess if they surveyed patients admitted between the hours of 6am & 10 am they'd find that 75% had milk or coffee in their systems!

These politicians have got to go.

Okay you start digging from the south, I'll start digging from the north, and when we meet our ditches in the middle, we can give a good shove and push California out into the Pacific, away from the mainland.

And people keep voting for Democrats??? They admit they can't handle money!!!

Sigh. I knew it was just a matter of time before the tax-addicted politicians started on alcohol too. Carrie Nation was at least up-front about her puritanical crusade. The modern Carries are going to effect the demise of bars and taverns using less direct (and more dangerous methods): smoking bans, taxation, regulation and litigation.

After all, bars and taverns have played a big political role in America's history. They were where people got together and actually TALKED and fomented political reform and change Can't have that, now can we? Best just to keep people isolated and afraid so they won't get any ideas about getting rid of their oppressors.

If 60% tested positive doesnt that mean the very meaningful number of 40% didnt? I guess they just get a free ride!

There is something-evil working underground in America. It becomes more apparent to me with each passing day.

While we are focused on keeping our rights as smokers, they hit us on another side now, with alcohol.

The “evil-doers” are working to stop smoking, stop drinking, close restaurants, close bars, stop our socializing. Everything we were born into, are now being shut down, one by one.

What is next? Making the women wear those blue Burkas? Just shoot me now: I am too claustrophobic to even consider it!
