By now most of you have heard the runors that he has terminal lung cancer-and all the articles they're churning out of course emphasize the fact he was a smoker for most of his life. He himself is denying it and even making light of it-probably because he doesn't want his life to be used by the Nazis to whip smokers with after he's gone.

I used to have compassion, but they legislated it and taxed it out of existence.

I hadn't heard that he was ill. He's 83 years old.

I did see a number of articles about Paul Newman. He may have been a smoker but he also spent a considerable amount of time in auto racing environments - as many of you know, he was a big auto racing participant and fan. I would think that hanging around areas with heavy amounts of fumes from racing fuel might be a contributing factor to cancer - however, of course, we'll never hear that Roll Eyes

Paul Newman was not only one of the best actors, but an all around decent human. Just my 2 cents!
Thanks,

Racing? Maybe they will want to ban race cars next!

In the grand scheme of things, just how dangerous is SHS as compared to cars.

There are 300 million of us and cars kill about 43,000 or .014% of us per year.
(43,000 divided by 300,000,000 = .00014,this means,I think,99.986% will not die.)
SHS is estimated to kill 55,000 or .018% of us per year.

This is an increase of 4/1,000th of one percent! Eek

This is not very much of an increase in risk of death! Roll Eyes

Cars are not banned and neither should SHS be banned.

There are all sorts of accommodations with car usage;there are fast lanes and slow lanes, there are bicycle lanes, there are hiking trails where cars are not allowed, there are snow-mobile trails where cars are not allowed.

If I open a race track for car racing, the govt should not ban race cars from my race track because some fool wants to hike, ride their bike, or whatever on my property at any time that they want.

If they wish, they are free to come and watch the racing; but, if they feel that the fumes and noise are unhealthy, they should go elsewhere.

The same with people seeking employment. The govt should not ban race cars on my race track because some people might feel that racing cars makes the track an unhealthy place to work.

Anyone or govt person that thinks that banning race cars from race tracks will stop teenagers from driving too fast is a 'MORON'!! Razz

This line of thought deserves further input and I welcome any and all comments.

I don't know the number, but car exhaust (and trucks) is also said to kill a certain number of people. You can add that to the car accident deaths and probably beat SHS deaths. Big Grin
