I don't remember much about Ford's presidency since I was 5 years old when he left office. What I do know is that he presided over a very difficult time in recent history (the end of the Vietnam War, Watergate, and the Energy Crisis) and was rarely seen in public without his pipe . Somehow, he lived to be 93...

Looking at the picture I'd say the guy next to Ford didn't like pipe smoke. LOL

Oh, I doubt that. Nobody acted that way around smokers until 1993. Maybe he swallowed water down his windpipe..... Big Grin

I think it said on the website where I found this photo that they were watching the returns from the '76 elections - that probably explains the guy on the left's expression...

The guy on the left is Joe Garagiola who used to play pro baseball. If you Google his name, you'll find out he used spit tobacco back in the day, but is now on a crusade against it.
