Don't know if anyone here watches David Letterman...I do occasionally, but won't be from now on. At the beginning of his show tonight, he had the guy that runs a deli get rid of the cigarette signs in his shop...and the whole audience was applauding! Really ticked me off! I'm really sick of this crap, and have been for a looooong time now. I'm also getting tired of writing to all these people about how I feel, especially since they really don't give a care...guess that's what they are hoping...people will just give up and give in...sad....

Thanks for mentioning this story, Abby! I too will not be watching anymore Letterman! You might consider writing a letter to his producers. Also - I'd like to note that Letterman is a cigar smoker (or was at one time). Thanks,

I miss the old Johnny Carson shows, when just about everybody smoked. Letterman couldn't hold a candle to Johnny, anyway. Also, Jay Leno has made many anti-tobacco remarks in his 14 years on the Tonight Show as well.
That is what you can expect as the boomers are fall into the hands of the medical profession.
Even though Letterman is past the usual age of father hood he has become one and wants to see the kid get married and have children. He will be close to 80 by then.
It is going to be common for boomers to fall into this trap, our children are not getting married until they are in the 30's meaning we are in our fifties before we realise how we have wasted our lives todate. In order to see our grandchildren we will have to wait. If we want to last longer we will depend on medical science. Hospitols are springing up everywhere to insure we ingest everything they have to offer for as long as possible.
Then there are those who will divorce and remarry in an effort to recapture their youth and try again. How long will it be before we see designer stroolers attached to wheel chairs?
It has happened before, but not on so grand a scale.
I bet that removing the cig ads in the deli had more to do with CBS not wanting to get complaints from anti groups for "advertising" cigarettes.
Then they wouldn't have had to remove them during the show...they could have been removed before hand. I did write CBS however. I'm just sick of all this anti crap. Guess I'm a little touchy Was nice to see channel 19 news out of Cleveland making fun of the ban on trans fat though Wish they'd do that with more things!
Leno is OBSESSED with smokers/smoking, and it's one more reason why I won't watch him. Another reason is, he's not funny. Letterman is now a left-wing loon elitist.
I know that Leno has long been in the anti camp, but it seems now that the others (O'Brian and Letterman - both of whom used to smoke cigars on their show) are in on it too. I wouldn't be suprised if there is some kind of anti payola going on here for them to include jokes or PR stunts like Letterman in the deli - that are consistent with the anti agenda.

I don't know if it's any consolation, but I was up way too late one night and Carson Daly was on and his guest said that they had quit smoking. The audience began applauding and Daly stopped them saying "no, no, no, don't applaud. This isn't The Tonight Show. We don't applaud quitting smoking on this show." Then he said, jokingly, "we actually encourage smoking on our show." Then he waved a dismissive hand at the camera. He probably got mail for it.
I watched Boston Legal last night and enjoy the end where the two senior partners sit on an outside patio and smoke cigars and drink.
How nice it is that people making big bucks can pay for such amenities while the majority of the people who work in such a building have to go to the street to smoke.
I envy them for their access to that patio more than their earnings.
