Well, this is something different. Tobacco farmers are now selling leaf online. You can buy bags of leaf and chop them yourself. Gee ... I am waiting to read the story about how all the kid's are buying this stuff online and it need's to be stopped. Just give the antis some time. I think cured leaf sold at auction houses is about two bucks a pound, so this farmer is trying to do better by selling directly to consumers. A pound of clean tobacco (no stems) will make about 25 packs of cigarettes. I don't know of any law against such, yet, anyway. If you wanted to do this, drive out to tobacco country and see if a farmer will sell you some. They sell corn, watermelons, etc., at roadside stands ... why not, tobacco leaf. Of course if you do this, you are going to have to experiment with mixing different tobacco. Making a cigarette is quite easy ... making a good tasting one is the hard part. If you don't think so, buy a bag of "Old Hillside" it's really cheap and gosh awful, that, and Mad Dog wine must be a republican plot to get rid of homeless people. I have been buying bulk tobacco for about five years and making my own, not sure if I would want to go through all the work of chopping the leaf up myself. Of course this is the next level down ... after that it's growing tobacco. GRANDAD'S TOBACCO This message has been edited. Last edited by: John L, |

Of course this won't be enough for the antis. they probably won't do anything about it until it starts to pose a threat to big tobacco, MSA payments, and state tax revenues. Then you can bet it will be banned...It sounds like fun though- I'd be willing to give it a roll. |
