Antis quote the 2006 SG report;but, I doubt any have read the thing.
http://www.surgeongeneral.gov/library/secondhandsmoke/report/ Introduction, Summary, and Conclusions Specificity, referring to a unique exposure-disease relationship (e.g., the association between thalidomide use during pregnancy and unusual birth defects), can be set aside as not relevant, as all of the health effects considered in this reporthave causes other than involuntary smoking. One might ask the antis, since 90% of lung cancer deaths(about 145,000)are caused by smoking; how many deaths are caused by each of the other 350+ cancer causing agents. One might ask them how many of the deaths are caused by smoking and each individual other cancer causing agents together. You would never get an answer;but, watching them hem and haw would be interesting! |
