Quietly, with no fanfare, one of the head honchos at the American Legacy Foundation (ALF, the anti-tobacco group formed as part of the Master Settlement Agreement) has resigned.

On May 9, ALF President Cheryl Heaton quietly and briefly announced the resignation of Chuck Wolfe from ALF. Wolfe was the chief mover and shaker for the nasty anti-tobacco industry ad campaign, a campaign which violated the terms of the settlement agreement.

Prior to becoming director of ALF, Wolfe was the director of the Florida "Truth" campaign, which was also noted for its attack ads and for teen harassment of legislators, ad agencies with tobacco contracts, tobacco company executives, and even private citizens who opposed some of the tactics of the campaign. After being in the job for only about a year (and after some real nastiness by "Truth" teens against state legislators), Wolfe "resigned" from his Florida post.

One can't but wonder what was behind his "resignation" from ALF's "Truth" campaign, after only about a year as program director.

Maybe working with him was like licking an ashtray? or a toilet... If he ran the totally misnamed "Truth" campaign he was apparently a real s.o.b.

They started that crap here in Minnesota too, with the usual wild claims and ads by the teenies who don't know what they are dealing with to start.

Seems there's a lot going on behind the scenes of the anti-tobacco skirmish that's being kept quiet. (Our good old trusty media.)

Odd, that this Chuck Wolfe has twice "resigned" from his anti-smoking posts, especially after such a short time with ALF.

Odd, also, that something similar happened with Dr. Michael Siegel.

After his recent run-in with Glantz's outfit, Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights (their refusal to publish Siegel's retraction and apology to Robert Levy and Ros Marimont for having wrongly smeared them), Siegel's name has been removed from ANR's Board of Directors.

Hmmm is right.

Off topic (or on only half of it) CNN has started running a barrage of offensive "your lungs are rotting" commercials. Is this only in NY? I think I saw the name of some NY org as a sponsor. Anybody else seen them?

Cat, it probably is only in NY. It is much cheaper to run advertising such as this on the able channels in a local market than it is to run them nationally. they are probably paying the local cable provider "X" amount of dollars per month for "X" number of spots on the various cable stations. At least that is the way it works here in Delaware.
