We have new anti-smoking ads on the radio in Wisconsin. Like previous ones, they stink. It's been quite awhile since I've seen or heard any anti-smoking crap. Well, it was nice while it lasted. (We have been deluged with tons of anti-drug crap though)

I haven't memorized the two ads, but they go something like this:

1. I'm a convenience store clerk. Blah blah blah. I won't sell tobacco to kids. I care about my health and the health of kids....

2. I'm a bartender. Blah blah blah. I won't sell alcohol or tobacco to kids. Then the rest of the time all he talks about is tobacco. Not one more mention of alcohol. LOL

But then again this is paid for the state anti-tobacco goon squad so I don't really expect them to waste their dime on preventing underage drinking.

BTW, in my state and I'll guess the other 49 states, it's illegal to sell tobacco (and alcohol) to minors. I don't know who these ads are really supposed to be aimed at. Fellow anti-tobacco goons?

Here in NYS they have started running some really deceptive radio ads where people talk about how "smoking is killing me" then explain that it was another family member's smoking.

What I really want to know is is this just dialogue dreamed up by some highly paid copywriting critter or are these "real" voices of real people who really have "smoking related" health problems without ever having smoked & that non-partisan MD's are sure were caused by tobacco smoke? Run on sentance. Ur...run on question? I'm going to write to my rep critter & see if I get any response. Suspect if will be the usual "everybody knows" and "how could it not" and we'd all live forever if there were no tobacco (but the gov't wants the $$$ so it will remain legal). I RANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wisconsin had something like that a few years ago; A woman claiming her father died from SHS at work. She was soooo homely (no offense to homely's meant) that there's no way she was an actress.

The taxpayer-funded anti-tobacco industry here also had a website for people to go to to tell their stories of how SHS killed their family members. I wrote them (and a letter to the editor) asking how in the hell people are qualified to make such an evaluation.

At the height of funding here back then I once saw or heard 8 commercials in a 20 minute time frame.

We have the reality of people with names and death certificates who die of other causes...and people with no names and nothing but anecdotes (if that, if true) dying of "smoking related" maladies that also afflict the non-smokers and non-second-hand-smoke-exposed but it "must" be due to tobacco.

Ever wonder what it was like in Salem? Some things never change.

You would think that with NY being that anti-smoking police state it has become and having one of the strictest smoking bans, they would quit harrassing the smokers for a while if they want to keep them and their tax $ in the state. With housing prices in NY, at least near NYC being what they are, I would sell my house and move to another state that values personal freedom (and probably has a lower cost of living) without a second thought if I lived there. I realize though that not everyone has this choice or wants to leave but the smoking ban in Mass. definitely influenced my decision not to move back there.
