Hi everybody, this is my first post here, and I'm sympathetic to your cause Smile

I have a report due Monday, May 23rd, which I have only started at this late hour because of many other life problems/demands. So, I'm asking for your help! Can anybody suggest any good book titles/internet resources that back up the business rights/privacy rights argument that private business owners should decide whether or not they allow smoking rather than the government?

I want to focus on the aspect of how the opposing argument hinges on a false idea---the lie that people working at/eating at bars and restaurants with smoking are having smoke "imposed" upon them against their will!

I've seen some incredibly knowledgable posts here from people who have deconstructed the PC crusaders, and I just wanted to know what arguments/laws I should refer to to back up how this is basically an injustice. Please help me shine some clarity on the purposely foggy arguments/appeals to emotion made by the other side.

Thank you dearly for any help.

Most definitely read about US Supreme Court rulings, such as Lloyd Corp vs Tanner.

There's also a good editorial in the Washington Times, Blowing Smoke, which picks at newest efforts by the D.C. nannies to install a ban there. The bantheban.org folks have several good threads on their site about property rights issues.

Don't forget to address that the USA was founded on the rule of law and private property ownership, not the tyranny of the majority. The founding fathers wanted to protect their rights and property from the British monarchy and each other. The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 bestows workplace safety responsibility and authorities to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), not the goofballs at the EPA, NIH, NCI, FDA, etc. Just search this site for OSHA and you'll find plenty of threads w/ links.

Check back later and I might have a few more for you. And don't procrastinate so long next time. Wink Best of luck.

Yes, there are many fine intelligent folks who post here. Thank you for noticing their hard work and insights.

Just one point of order, the anti-smokers are not "PC crusaders". They are totalitarian, dictatorial control freaks. Call them what they really are every chance you get, for it knocks off their "mask" in front of the ignorant masses.

If you want to delve further, read "Propaganda" by Jacques Ellul for it will give you much insight into this phenomenon that many people chalk up to political "correctness". These (expletive deleted) nannies would have made fine slave owners in times past. They're the kind of people who kick dogs just for the rush they get out of it.

Hey thanks a lot, lockjaw02. I've certainly learned my lesson about procrastinating.

You'll get no argument from me there. I have always hated when people describe leftists as being well-meaning but confused. They aren't well meaning, their politics are hateful! I guess I can speak more opnely here than I thought.

I took the advice in your posts and found some interesting stuff, in addition to getting a few library books. Thanks again.

While I have some good info, I'm still open to any information from other posters as well, so feel free to post Smile

Check library for the book by Jacob Sullum called "For Your Own Good". It covers the bases with respect to government and tobacco.
