New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says golf fairways would suffer if illegal immigrants were returned to their native country.

"You and I are beneficiaries of these jobs," Bloomberg told his WABC-AM radio co-host, John Gambling. "You and I both play golf; who takes care of the greens and the fairways in your golf course?"

The mayor also said 25 percent of undocumented immigrants are farm workers and many are home healthcare workers.

"Nobody wants to deport them, in the end, because people need them to take these jobs and do the things that nobody else is doing," Bloomberg said.

Isn't that something? Bloomberg didn't bat an eye when a business owner was fined for having clean ashtrays stored on a shelf in his office, but God forbid if anyone thinks of deporting illegal alien greenskeepers.

Typical elitist snob. He doesn't have the foggiest idea what it takes to maintain a golf course - years of training and experience. It's not just mowing the grass. I've been in a "golf course maintenance" family for nearly 30 years, and it requires an extensive knowledge of agronomy. What unskilled workers might be used are normally only summer help and given simpler jobs. With his obnoxious attitude, he probably drives the superintendent of his golf course crazy (bad round? Not HIS fault - it must be the golf course...quick, call out the peasants to fix it!).

There's a reason many folks call him Bloominidiot Smile

Freedom is correct about golf course maintenance. I play very little, but have spent many, many hours on various courses up and down the east coast..........it's no easy job keeping them up.

I have a very strong position on illegal aliens and the people that hire them, which has gotten me in a bit of hot water on other forums. But as far as I am concerned if they are here illegally they are criminals, as are the people that employ them.

But if Bloominidiot is so concerned about their welfare he should have thoguht about all the jobs they lost because of his assinine smoking ban. He thinks nothing about putting lawabiding CITIZENS and taxpayers out of work or out of business, but worries abut illegals?????

He makes me ashamed to admit I am a native New Yorker.

I read an article recently about the increased availability of McDondald restaurants in New York now, where there were none before.

Hence, tax revenues from the restaurant industry have increased in New York.

I wonder how often the mayor enjoys a Big Mac?

The problem is the people who employ them - if they hired only "documented" workers, there would be no incentive for anyone to be here illegally. It may very well add to the cost of certain products and services if bussineses hired only legitimate workers and I wonder how many of these limousine liberal Bloomberg types would be willing to pay their gardners and nannies such a "living wage."...

Current government programs and tax structures have encouraged an underground economy without rules. Illegal workers are glad to get any income from any source that is greater than what they earned at home. These may not be jobs that the Mayor might be interested in and they may not support him and his friends but they probably do support those who provide services to the mayor.

There are no state or federal reporting requirements that are honored by the illegal drug trade. There is now also a lot of money to be made in his fair city on the sale of untaxed tobacco products.

Untaxed household staffs were all the rage until various federal appointees were caught with them in their households, but how many of the mayor's friends can look forward to jobs at the state or federal trough?

I wonder how many day workers there are in the mayor's city?

How many citizens are just trying to help someone else from the home country?

How may of those citizens will vote for the mayor because of his stance on their relatives and friends status in the country?

That has been my stance on the issue for as long as I can remember. And start with Suzy Homemaker or Harry Homeowner that wants her lawn tended or his roof reshingled. Employment agencies and day labor centers are both good places to start.
