TIPTON, Iowa - Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.

"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."

He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms...

The plan would include mental health care as well as dental and vision coverage for all Americans.

"The whole idea is a continuum of care, basically from birth to death," he said.

Let me fill in the blanks and I'll bet I'm right.

Yes, you'll also be required to visit the dentist (twice a year).

Yes, like it or not, you'll have to have that thing shoved up your ass when you turn 50.

Yes, you'll have to take any prescription the doctor tells you to.

Yes, fines and/or jail if you fail to show up for your MANDATORY appointments.

This is really some of the scariest SHIT I've read in a long time.

"If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose"

What an excerpt, eh?

You can't choose. Sounds like a soundbite stalin would have used. This is about as un-American as it gets. However, the America most of us once knew has been replaced by a cheap facsimile of what it was supposed to have been.

Hopefully, the sheer arrogance of these clowns will start ticking some folks off...

F&^k you, edwards.

This one too, 383rr:

I'd say that one lines up with Hitler's "You have a duty to be healthy."

We had more freedom in the military. The only time we had to see a doctor was to get shots and come to think of it, those people weren't even doctors.

Edwards says this will cost $120 billion. I'm sure he's not figuring in lost productivity from time off from work. The cost is getting right up there with supposed smoking costs.

If society can't afford smokers then it surely can't afford this either.

This is disgusting, and absolutely insane.

Yeah, the only time I had to see a dr. in the army was for shots at the AG bn, and the episode when I broke my leg.

I wonder how many fools will be sucked in by all of this?

Nevermind, that's a question I don't think I could stand to see answered.

Doctors and the medical profession kill 100,000 people a year thru mistakes.

What is the real mortality of many prescription drugs?

How much productive time will be taken up in waiting and exam rooms each year?

My health is my business, not anyone else's.

What would be the cost of policing such a policy?

I just peeked onto DU - Democratic Underground.

Overwhelmingly the posters are against it - one even said he 'Jumped the Shark'

Hopefully this will be his Howard Dean Scream and he'll be gone.

MANDATORY Doctor Visits??????!!!!!! I'm not thinking so. I only see a doctor if I have something wrong that won't go away on its own after a month or so. I'm scared to death every time I go in (hypochondriac, yes.....) and avoid doctors like the plague. They can't even get a normal heart rate or B/P on me, because I'm so freaked out. I won't even consider a job that requires a physical. Edwards must go away. I'm the type of person who thinks I have colon cancer every time I have a loose bowel movement. No thanks!!!!!!

It was.

Re-education camp will be your first stop my friend. I mean comrade.

If anyone has ever seen Red Dawn, I imagine it to look just like the drive-in movie camp scene.

AVENGE ME!

Mandatory doctor appointments to make certain, thru tests, that you are complying.

You will be healthy, dammit!
In the health care political realm, John Edwards, a candidate for president, upped the ante by proclaiming that under his plan for universal coverage every American would be required to visit the doctor. No exceptions.
"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care.

Cut off health care for sinners

5th September 2007

Conservative politicians in the United Kingdom want the government to refrain treating those who refuse to change their "unhealthy" lifestyles. Incredibly this healthcare proposal appears in a document entitled Restoring Pride in Our Public Services.

The Tory panel that produced the document wants to shift the National Health Service from treating disease to preventing it.

Promoting "prevention" as the center of the health care is justified as a cost-cutting measure that will save universal coverage from collapse. To drill this message into the electorate the Tories produced this incoherent talking point:

"It is inconsistent with the concept of the responsible citizen to imagine that it is realistic for citizens, having paid their taxes, to expect that the state will underwrite the health implications of any lifestyle decision they choose to make."

Let's see. The British citizen, through taxation, pays for health care. The payments the citizens make are compulsory. After having paid for health care the state will now deny that care if the overtaxed citizens don't discard their sinful ways.

You smoke and enjoy food? No health care for you! Such a system is manna from heaven for pharmaceutical companies that push smoking cessation and diet products but is sheer hell for those who enjoy activities the government disapproves of.

I found a clip from that part of the movie. It doesn't show the visual indoctrination crap though.
