Anyone here follow this show? I've been on the bandwagon since the beginning and just love it! I think the writers do a great job with character development and of course, the script. The episodes actually deal with social issues and parody every possible opinion.

If you follow the show, who's your favorite character?

No, I like South Park. Their depiction of Rob Reiner in their "Butt Out" episode was just too eerily realistic. Don't ever eat the cupcake.

I tried to get into South Park, but it got too juvenile for me. At least the Simpson's writers insert their irony with a clever twist or well-thought out plot.

**Gee, let's fart, swear, and kill Kenny every episode; that's original!

I've only seen South Park twice. A friend emailed me to tell me to see Butt Out and the other one was the Museum of Tolerance (ROFL):

Museum of Tolerance, next day. A really modern building with a fountain by the entrance. The five boys and their parents arrive at the museum]

Tour Guide: [a woman greeting the families inside the museum] Welcome to the Museum of Tolerance. Here we try to educate you on the dynamics of racism and prejudice in America. ...

<snip>

Tour Guide: Well, that's the end of our tour.

Randy: Now do you see why tolerance is so important, boys?

Stan: I guess.

Tour Guide: We have to accept people for who they are and what they like to do. [notices someone nearby] Hey! What the hell are you doing? [it's a man smoking on the edge of the fountain]

Smoker: Oh I was just uh-

Tour Guide: There's no smoking in the museum!
Smoker: But I'm not in the museum.

Tour Guide: Get out of here, you filthy smoker! [the smoker rises and walks off]

Gerald: Yeah, dirty lungs!

Sharon: Go ahead and kill yourself, stupid tar-breath!

Chris: Dumbass!

Richard: Get out of here! [the smoker walks out of view]

Tour Guide: Well, have a great day, everybody.

Yes, I'm a South Park fan too (even saw the movie, and now I have "Blame Canada" running in a loop through my head, having thought of it--thanks, guys).

It might (don't watch it); I really don't care.

Since I made this thread, I've noticed that nearly every episode of my beloved "Simpsons" involves smoking.

Krusty the Clown, Patty/Selma, Fat Tony, (even Homer, Grandpa Simpson, and various misc characters all the time).

For those not familar with the show, Laramie cigarettes (likely a Marlboro clone) is their brand of choice (along with Duff beer).

Yep, every single episode since I've made this post has at least ONE person smoking on the Simpsons.

Yet I still love the show.

Ever get the urge to smoke because of that show? Michael Thun was on MSNBC today and he was talking about the "Kids smoke because their favorite stars smoke on screen."

If I were a teenager with low self-esteem looking to fit in, my answer is YES- I would get the urge to smoke.

It looks so cool.

That is why 90-95% of smokers start when they are under 21 years old.

To fit in??? Why, did you hang out with movie stars? Or in your case with The Simpson's, cartoon characters?

If you were to have started smoking as a kid to fit in it would have been from peer pressure, not seeing actors smoke on screen.

I didn't start smoking because it was cool, I started smoking because it was fun.

Your parents sure didn't smoke because it was cool, did they? Not if they hid in a closet their entire lives.

I think maybe you made up a new statistic.

I guess it depends on what year anti-tobacco pamphlet you have in front of you to know why kids start smoking. Way back when it was peer pressure. Then it was parental smoking. Then it was Joe Camel. Now it's movies stars.

No wonder you're always so confused.

Geez, Sq... here's the reference
more than 90 percent of adult smokers begin when they’re teens

My dad began the tobacco thing in the military... want to start arguing about that?

My mom is smoking to spite my dad.. doesn't make sense, but my mom never did make much sense. When he stops, she stops.... over and over again each time he tries to quit.

I need to explain this to you why??

No. No. No. You said, "It looks so cool."

"That is why 90-95% of smokers start when they are under 21 years old."

You said almost everybody starts smoking because it looks so cool.

BTW, you said 21. Your source says teens.

Those figures are obsolete. It's now only 80% as teens.

"My dad began the tobacco thing in the military... want to start arguing about that?"

Did they have closets in the military?

I remember foot lockers and wall lockers, but no closets. I thought you said he was a closet smoker his whole life? LOL

/acting (and sounding) dumb as a box of hammers.

I think you are arguing for the sake of arguing. Next time, give me something worth replying to.
