Four years ago, Fuller was forced to slow down. Doctors gave him 18 months to live unless he got a new liver. He quit smoking, quit drinking and waited.

Standing before a health class last week for Charles County teenagers caught smoking, Fuller warned, "If you don't quit, you'll end up like me with this stupid, damn thing held up to your neck and people can hardly understand you.''

Throat cancer. "Beer drinking," "new liver," need I say more? Smoking and drinking combined greatly increase the odds of getting throat cancer, but with millions of smokers and millions of drinkers you still don't see too many instances of it every year.

And even less with artificial voice boxes.

Well at least anyone that's a pathological lier and has an artificial voice box has a job waiting.
