Don't smoke!!! wait for the pharmaceutical companies to develop non-addictive nicotine.
And if you smoke quit and be miserable.

The finding does not mean that people with depression should smoke or even start using a nicotine patch, the researchers caution. They say that smoking remains the No. 1 preventable cause of death and disability in the United States, and that the addictive hazards of tobacco far outweigh the potential benefits of nicotine in depression.

Blah blah blah blah blah. What about depressed senior citizens. There's no way in hell taking up smoking is going to hurt them unless they set themselves on fire.

Then again they may freeze to death when they're sent outside the nursing home to smoke.

All this information has been public record since the tobacco companies turned over their research as a part of the MSA was signed.

RJ Reynolds set up a division to continue this research.

It is unbeleivable that these researchers were willing to stand before a crowd of people and broadcast their lack of intelligence.

The patent on Prozac just expired costing Eli Lilly billions in sales each year.

By personal experience; I quit for 6 weeks years ago and gained 12 pounds. I quit for 12 weeks the last time, and gained 20 pounds. I also sat in one place grinding my teeth, wanting to bite the head off anyone who spoke or made a noise near me. I went to the hospital 5 times in that 12 weeks with chest pain. I'm sure that was because of anxiety over not smoking, but my brother-in-law told my Momma, "either get off her back, or lose her, it's your choice, because she's gonna die alot faster trying to please you, than she will by smoking". Surely that ain't good for anyone, but it happens to most who DO quit. My Mother is 85 now, and quit years ago, and gained 20 pounds, and has driven me crazy ever since. She's too old for hormone shots anymore, and I can't quite bring myself to slap her silly, but I can say with a certainty that quitting smoking, just like quitting drinking, doesn't change a person, it just takes away their ability to control any abusive personality tendencies, which of course they had all along. My oldest sister (who is the kindest person in the world) quit a few months ago, and now thinks it's her duty to tell everyone else what and how to do things. It's about like when she (And Momma, too) stopped hormone shots. I wish they'd never quit, one or the other! I'd much rather smoke than gain weight, which btw I have NOT been able to get rid of, and I sure don't want to be aggrivated constantly, like everyone else in my life who quit. In my health condition I can't afford any more weight at 170 pounds.

"Speed of light? No, but I know the speed of "stupid"!"
Surgeon General's Warning: Harrassing me about smoking can be hazardous to your health.
