SG's 2006 report says that the only way to control exposure to SHS is thru 'smoking bans'.

Health advocates and other antis swear that nicotine is the most addictive substance on the planet and that the withdrawal symptoms are severe. That is why they and doctors push nicotine replacement therapy(gums, patches, and etc) to help soften the withdrawal process.

Since nonsmoking food and drink servers are exposed to a great deal of SHS; otherwise, why is there a need for smoking bans, they must surely be addicted to the nicotine the SHS contains!!

Smoking bans will certainly cause these servers to go through severe withdrawal symptoms.

This is 'cruel and unusual punishment' which is forbidden by the 8th amendment to the Constitution.

The Bill of Rights
Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Clearly smoking bans are unconstitutional for the cruel and unusual punishment that they cause nonsmoking servers to suffer; or else, the health advocates and other antis are lying about the addictiveness of nicotine or lying about the amount of exposure to SHS nonsmoking servers are getting.

Nicotine Addiction

Addiction is characterized by the repeated, compulsive seeking or use of a substance despite its harmful effects and consequences. Addiction is defined as physical and psychological dependence on the substance. Nicotine is the addictive drug in tobacco. Regular use of tobacco products leads to addiction in a high proportion of users.

Although 70% of smokers want to quit and more than 40% try to quit each year, fewer than 5% succeed. This is because smokers not only become physically addicted to nicotine; there is a strong emotional (psychological) aspect and they often link smoking with many social activities. All of these factors make smoking a hard habit to break.

Guide to Quitting Smoking
Why Is It So Hard to Quit Smoking?

Why is quitting and staying quit hard for so many people? The answer is nicotine.

Nicotine

Nicotine is a drug found naturally in tobacco. It is highly addictive -- as addictive as heroin or cocaine. Over time, a person becomes physically and emotionally addicted to, or dependent on, nicotine.

Nicotine Withdrawal

When smokers try to cut back or quit, the lack of nicotine leads to withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal is both physical and mental. Physically, the body reacts to the absence of nicotine.

If a person has smoked regularly for a few weeks or longer and suddenly stops using tobacco or greatly reduces the amount smoked, they will have withdrawal symptoms.

Withdrawal symptoms can include any of the following:

dizziness (which may only last 1-2 days after quitting)

depression

feelings of frustration, impatience, and anger

anxiety

irritability

sleep disturbances, including having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, and having bad dreams or even nightmares

trouble concentrating

restlessness

headaches

tiredness

increased appetite
(note: just what anyone needs in this day and PC age!!-GK)

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

As mentioned earlier, the nicotine in cigarettes leads to actual physical dependence, which can cause unpleasant symptoms when a person tries to quit. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) gives you nicotine -- in the form of gums, patches, sprays, inhalers, or lozenges -- but not the other harmful chemicals in tobacco.

The symptoms of withdrawal seem to characterize what is currently ailing our society as a whole.

There are individual pills available for each of these problems and will be prescribed to each sufferer for the rest of their lives. Each dose of each pill costs multiples of dollars and insures healthy profits for the manufacturers.
